The Nike Air Trainer 1 Puerto Rico arrived at retail shortly after Carmelo Anthony, forward for the New York Knicks, purchased the North American Soccer League team Puerto Rico FC and right in time for the 2015 Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York. This Air Trainer 1 showcases its Puerto Rico theme by mirroring the Puerto Rican flag. The flag features five equal horizontal bands of red (top and bottom) alternating with white, as well as a blue isosceles triangle triangle on its hoist side with a five-pointed white star at its center. The Nike Air Trainer 1 Puerto Rico breaks up the blue and red woven mesh overlays up with expanses of white tumbled leather that is perforated at the toeboxes. The shoe's midsole flaunts the bands of the flag and blue accents the Nike branding on the iconic forefoot strap. A red inner lining carries the theme through, but it is the small green Coquí frogs on the tongues that highlight this Air Trainer 1. Coquí is the common name for several species of brilliantly colored small frogs that are native to Puerto Rico, and they offer a unique addition to this classic silhouette made famous by Bo Jackson in the early and mid-90s.
