About this shoe
The ASICS Gel-Lyte III 07 Remastered Shigeyuki Mitsui in Orange Cream Blue is a tribute release honoring both the GEL-Lyte III's 35th anniversary and the retirement of its original designer Shigeyuki Mitsui, who created the silhouette's defining split-tongue construction in 1990 as a practical solution to the problem of tongue slippage during running, accidentally producing the most distinctive and widely recognizable design detail in ASICS history, with Mitsui's signature embroidered directly onto the split tongue as the most personal design element on the shoe, placing the creator's name on the feature he invented and making the connection between designer and design the literal and visible subject of the tribute. The coral-themed colorway was chosen by Mitsui himself and derives its significance from Japanese wordplay, where the number 35 can be pronounced san-go, which also means coral, making the coral aesthetic simultaneously an anniversary marking and a linguistic tribute, with turquoise and teal hairy suede on the mudguard and heel overlays and cream suede across the toe box and lace panels providing the base construction, while orange Tiger Stripes in carved leather with textures that mimic coral reef formations run across the midsole, and coral reef artwork printed on the insoles completing the thematic coherence of the design across every visible surface. The Remastered construction format, previously reserved exclusively for collaborations including the landmark 2023 Kith x ASICS Gel-Lyte III Remastered partnership with Ronnie Fieg, makes its first general release appearance with this Shigeyuki Mitsui tribute, bringing upgraded materials, richer detailing, a chunkier toe shape, more padded collar, and slightly different panel dimensions compared to standard GEL-Lyte III releases. The 07 Remastered designation specifically references the 2007 era Gel-Lyte III construction that collectors identified as having distinct characteristics from the original 1990
